Senior Project Architect
Don has over 45 years of continuous experience as an architect, working on educational, governmental, & residential Projects. He received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from The University of Texas at Austin in 1974 and is currently licensed to practice architecture in Colorado, Texas and New Mexico. Don has deep and varied experience in master planning large to small scale architectural projects and is especially skilled in managing and facilitating the programming and design process with Client groups, committee’s and stakeholders. He is very proficient in leading the architectural and engineering team design process in service to the clients. Don’s primary focus and responsibility is to the Client, and the delivery of solutions that best meet the Client’s desired design goals and budgets.
In addition to his active professional role in the firm as Architect Partner-in Charge, he proudly serves as President of the Board of Trustees for the Southern Colorado Developmental Disabilities Agency, and the Las Animas County Rehabilitation Center. Don enjoys and takes an active daily role in assisting younger staff to excel, and working towards the transition of ownership of Spencer Architecture Studio to the next generation.
Andrea is a New Jersey native and graduate of Villanova University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. After a long career in Health Care, she shifted to utilizing her right brain and entered the retail arena and purchased a custom picture framing shop. There she cultivated her love for art and developed marketing skills to create a successful business. At Spencer Architecture Studio, Andrea is part of a team that provides creative ideas and design solutions for the large rural areas it serves. Andrea loves camping, cooking, travel, snow-shoeing and hiking with her husband, Don.
Andrea is Board President of the Monte Vista Community Food Pantry, a member of the Economic Development Committee of the City of Alamosa, Alamosa County Chamber of Commerce, and Board Member of South Fork Chamber. oCommerce.
Anne is a licensed architect with twelve years of diverse project experience. She earned her Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Texas in 2010. During her seven years in New York City, she worked on residential, commercial and institutional projects, including adaptive reuse of historic structures. For Lake Flato Architects in San Antonio, she directed ground-up projects on university campuses, including two academic laboratory buildings at Cornell University currently under construction. While there, she also coordinated the firm’s internal research program, focused on building and advocating ecologically and socially sustainable practices. This work led her to pursue a master’s degree in geography at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Her research interests include the intersection of public investment, private redevelopment, and the human displacement that often follows. Her love for backpacking and trail running in the San Juans and the Sangres eventually drew her to the SLV, where she and her spouse have channeled their design and construction experience into building a small cabin.
Structural Engineer
About Margie
Margaret has over 45 years of engineering experience in consulting and manufacturing. She has a BSCE from Washington University in St. Louis and an MSCE from the
University of Missouri – Columbia. She is currently licensed to practice engineering in
Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Missouri. Through
her varied experiences in engineering Margaret has a good knowledge of building
codes and a solid understanding of structural design. She is a Lifetime member of the
American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
Margaret currently resides on a ranch outside the lovely Fredericksburg, Texas. She
enjoys spending time with her family and friends and visiting the many local wineries.
Project Manager
About Steve
Steve was born and raised in the SLV and has worked in the construction industry for over 24 years as a building contractor, inspector, building official, and project manager. Steve is a recent BSCET graduate from Old Dominion University, Norfolk VA, and registered
Engineer-in-Training.
Steve is a veteran, outdoor enthusiast, and member of local community organizations.
Architect In Training
About Suzette
Suzette has lived in Argentina, Mexico, Iowa and now lives in Alamosa, Colorado. She had the opportunity to study abroad in Rome, Italy, in the Spring of 2022, where she regained her love of sketching and traveling. In her last semester of school, she enrolled in an industrial design studio where she further improved her sketching skills and experienced a new side of design. She graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Architecture in May 2023. Suzette joined SAS in September 2023 and is starting her journey to becoming a licensed architect. In her free time, Suzette enjoys watching movies, spending time with friends and family, and creating art for her sister.
Intern Architect
About Maria
Maria Zielinski is a third year Environmental Design student at Texas A&M University, set to graduate in May of 2026. After graduation she plans to further her education by pursuing a Master’s degree and eventually working to get her license. At A&M, she actively mentors underclassmen in architecture, helping them develop their design skills and navigate the program. In the summer of 2024, Maria studied abroad in Barcelona, Spain, where she gained hands-on experience in interior architecture projects while immersing herself in the city's rich architectural history and culture. This experience made her realize her love for nature and travel which she hopes to show through her designs. In January 2025, she joined the SAS team as an intern, and is excited to gain valuable skills and learn more about the business side of architecture. In her free time she loves hiking, painting, and reading.
Intern Architect
About Amenah
Amenah Mohammed is joining the team as a Spring 2025 intern. She is a third-year Environmental Design and Architectural Studies student at Texas A&M University and is on track to graduate in May 2026. She was born in Iraq and has lived in several different places including Jordan, North Carolina, and Texas. She has always wanted to explore the world of architecture and different kinds of projects to get an idea of what kind of architecture she wants to do in the future. SAS has allowed this by having her work on a variety of different projects, exposing her to the artistic and business sides of architecture. Amenah loves weight training at the gym, being surrounded by family, spending time with her friends, and being a student at Texas A&M.
